About me
You Deserve to Feel in Control. I’m Here to Help.
Feeling like you’re not in control of your life or your emotions is a difficult experience, and you deserve to get the help that you need.
My Background
My approach & philosophy
While medication management and psychiatric evaluations are a primary part of my practice, my background is in expressive therapies and mental health counseling. I believe in taking a holistic approach to each individual. This isn’t about preferring one type of treatment over another, but is about getting to know each patient that I treat as an individual, how they see themselves in the world, and where they want to be. I typically see people for a combination of medication management and psychotherapy, or psychotherapy alone, in addition to stand alone consultations.
I use a variety of psychotherapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, supportive psychotherapy, mindfulness, music and expressive therapies.
This is a gender-affirming and trauma-informed practice.
Frequently asked questions
Do you prescribe medication?
Yes, when appropriate, Ms. Deignan prescribes a wide range of psychiatric medications for anxiety, ADHD, depression, bipolar disorder and other conditions.
What ages do you see?
Ms. Deignan sees ages in the full life span, from young children to older adults. However, she is currently only taking referrals for pediatric patients up to age 21. While she will see children as young as 3 years old for assessment and therapy, she does not usually prescribe medication to children younger than 6 years old.
Do you diagnose ADD/ADHD?
Yes! Ms. Deignan uses a combination of rating scales, computerized testing and clinical interview to make a diagnosis of ADHD/ADD.
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we are in-network with Aetna, Cigna and Traditional Medicare in both Massachusetts and New York. We are working on becoming credentialed with United Health Care in both states. We are also in-network with Point 32 Healthcare (mental health benefits manager for Harvard Pilgrim and Tufts in Massachusetts). We are additionally in with Partners Health Plan in New York, an insurance specifically for individuals supported by the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities in Westchester County, New York City and Long Island who have both Medicare and Medicaid benefits. We are not in with Medicaid in either state beyond Partners Health Plan. We are not in-network with Blue Cross (BCBS) at this time.
Do you treat ADHD with medication?
Ms. Deignan cannot promise a patient if she will prescribe medication or which one she might choose before meeting them, but she does use the full spectrum of medications approved for ADHD when appropriate.
Do you treat Autism?
That’s a tricky question. There’s nothing inherently about Autism that requires treatment. However, Ms. Deignan treats symptoms or other disorders that may accompany Autism, such as Anxiety, ADHD, Depression or irritability. Ms. Deignan does this through a variety of interventions, including medication management when appropriate and psychotherapy. Ms. Deignan does not provide ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis).
Do you diagnose Autism?
Autism is a clinical diagnosis that can be made via psychiatric interview alone, but for the purposes of services or accommodations, specialized objective assessments or testing like the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Scales) are usually needed. Ms. Deignan is not able to provide objective testing for Autism that at this time, but can talk with you about symptoms and how they impact your life, functioning, and self-view.
